Not a whole lot of inspiration for the title, the file was named Cosmos but I couldn't leave it as that. Not grand enough.
I have a huge fascination with astronomy and I haven't drawn many pictures containing anything of the likes, so I figured it was time for me to do so. I've been playing with this image for a few days now, the sketch, and coloured it in two days.
The red planets, and especially the sun, are extremely bright and distracting but there was no way I could avoid that. Its the freakin' sun people!
This little (big) dragon guy god dude isn't solid or even a true being. Look at his horns and eyes and you'll see he's made of stars. (Lame, lame, lame)
Ohman, we give off a light. X]
Hah, I'm so biased. I put Canada/North America in full view.
Hands, which may be completely off, were done WITHOUT a ref, so please give me some slack. Do you know how hard it is to look at your own hands at that angle without using a camera or a mirror? Same with the neck. But I don't even have a neck like that so...
Once again, download for massively full view. (1300x1700!!!)
I really like this one. It's an absolutely wonderful piece... it just emanates light, details, and color. But what makes the picture so phenominal is the balance, both with color and composition. The blue Earth and dragon is complimented nicely by the sun and smaller planets at the top. You're obviously talented with the color theory, I'll give you that!
My only critique would be to make the "eye stars" a little less linear. It's easier to see on his right (our left) eye, but the stars align perfectly as they come flowing from his eyes. It just seems a lot more "fixed" then the rest of the stars, which are scattered and rather relaxed-looking. Haha. It's... sort of hard to explain. xD
Great job on this one, though. You have my props for the brilliant work!
This is cool. It reminds me of my "Guardian" dragon - [link] Ha. But still this is cool. I like the idea of him being a celestial being - makes him a heavenly character if you will.
It's not really a crit, but more of a suggestion. The wings - if you were to place the skin, the wing membranes on them, like coming from his back, you could have swirls of light - think of either the Aurora Borealis (sp?) or what looks like a galaxy. Like the Milky Way. It's hard to describe but it would probably look neat.
Wow! Now, this is what I mean an epic piece. You asked that a little while ago, so.. The transitions between the stars and the dragon are great (I especially like the eyes and the hands) The horns sort off fade away, which gives a nice effect. And you may find the other planets distraction, I think they strengthen the composition. I don't know what it is, but the earth you drew just has a really strong atmosphere. As if you take a deep, fresh breath from cold air, all your sentences awake, that's the way it looks. And the dragon seems to cherish it like a child, tender but also attentively. Wonderful job.
