I've definitely been thinking of changing my username lately.
The older I get, the more I push away from having this name that doesn't really represent me. I joined DeviantArt almost 8 years ago, I would have been 13 when I created this username, which is a derivation of my dog's name.
I'm dying to change it. But to what? I'm pushing for more of a professional appearance as an artist, which comes with age, and honestly, I'm a bit embarrassed about my online identification, name-wise. The only other name I've got with online other than my own is TheDaytimeHeroes, which doesn't have much significance either, sounds cool, but still.
Kind of gets me thinking about "names". When DA introduced the ability to change your username, my initial thoughts weren't fantastic. But now, I love the idea. So many artists have evolved past their older monickers, many now go by their real name. I like that. And the ability to change usernames, originally I thought that it would cause some to lose their identity, as they were highly recognized by their names, but I've realized that is very wrong. If anything, their ability to
leave their old identities strengthened their
real identities.
So that is what I would like to do. Strengthen my identity as an artist.
No longer be recognized as "Kodriak", but as myself. Online, I no longer wish to be known as Kodriak, but Dani, or Danielle (more professional).
Now to just find the right username for the change...
Any thoughts on the topic? I'm sure many of you have had similar ideas. Love to hear from you!
